CLIMATE ACTION – COMPENSATION OF EMISSIONS AT TER CHEMICALS

As a significant milestone in our climate management, we at TER Chemicals have offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the third time in a row, thereby supporting important projects. However, our sustainability efforts go beyond pure offsetting; we pursue a holistic strategy to reduce emissions along the supply chain based on the principles of "avoid, reduce, compensate".

Now back to the emissions for 2022: thanks to our specific measures, we were able to reduce our carbon footprint by almost 165 tonnes of CO2 compared to the previous year. Among other things, this is due to the switch to 100% green electricity at the Hamburg site.

Which projects we support through offsetting

The Greenko Group's 180 MW Renewable Energy Project in India is a pioneering project that replaces around 327,729 MWh of electricity from fossil fuels with solar energy every year. The choice of this project is in line with our sustainability goals and values, as it not only adds environmental value but also supports several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The solar energy project provides access to affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) and promotes decent work and economic growth (SDG 8) as well as climate action (SDG 13). By creating jobs for the local population during the construction, commissioning and maintenance of the solar power project, it makes a significant contribution to sustainable local development, which we are happy to support.

TER Chemicals has deliberately chosen a project that meets the high requirements of the Gold Standard - a standard for climate and development measures that ensures the quantification, certification and maximisation of their impact.

TER Chemicals goes beyond external compensation projects

Sustainable environmental management involves more than just offsetting unavoidable emissions. We are actively taking internal measures to further reduce climate-damaging emissions with the help of our employees worldwide. Together with our business partners, we are working on a more climate-friendly supply chain. Our partnerships enable us, for example, to identify potential savings in logistics and to assess the comprehensive climate impact of our joint business by means of transparency regarding the carbon footprints of our products.

This underlines our ambition to not only look for short-term solutions, but to have a long-term positive impact on the environment. TER Chemicals is proud to take responsibility and actively contribute to shaping a more sustainable future. Our work in this area is in line with global environmental goals and demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility and corporate sustainability. Please contact us for more information.
