THE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

IS OUR RESPONSIBILTY

At TER Chemicals, the essence of sustainability is assuming responsibility for a better future for all.

To achieve this goal, we balance our strategic actions around economic, ecological, and social factors meanwhile supporting the overall goal of sustainable chemistry.

As a chemical distributor, we acknowledge our responsibility for the entire lifecycle of the products and services we offer and therefore understand the importance of a holistic approach. We commit to achieving the European Chemical Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Global Compact and invite you to join us on this journey.

Together with suppliers, customers, and employees we support the circular economy and offer sustainable alternatives by focusing product innovation and development with highest quality and compliance standards.

We base our sustainability approach on three essential elements:

Strengthen our Sustainable Portfolio, achieving the Sustainable Supply Chain and building a Sustainable Organization.

SUSTAINABLE

PORTFOLIO

Continuously developing a more sustainable portfolio and offering alternative product solutions is a key contribution to achieving our sustainability goals and supporting the circular economy.

Together with suppliers and customers we focus research and development on innovative alternatives to reduce pollution, save energy and resources and thus support an environmentally friendly production.

By signing the Responsible Care® Global Charter and supporting the UN Global Compact’s SDGs, we further highlight our commitment to improving chemical product safety and stewardship.

Through the sustainable products we offer, we especially support the following sustainable development goals:

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

To substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination by 2030, is one of the priority targets of this SDG for TER Chemicals.

With a sustainable portfolio and innovative solutions, we increase the availability of products with health and safety benefits while reducing their environmental footprint. Transparent documentation and regular trainings on safe chemical management and distribution help minimize negative health impacts from the exposure to chemicals along the supply chain.

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – Ensure access to water and sanitation for all

The development of our sustainable portfolio and the circular economy approach help to improve water quality and access globally. With our Water Chemicals portfolio and the sustainable solutions for filtering, disinfecting and treating water and wastewater, we help advance this SDG and especially these three targets:

  • Improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally
  • Substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity
  • Expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water- and sanitation-related activities and programs, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies

Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

Sustainable industries based on innovation, circular economy and optimal infrastructures support dynamic and competitive economies that generate employment and income.

Together with our partners we invest in research and development for innovative products to enable the efficient use of resources through circular economy. We apply digital solutions and process automation and facilitate international trade as part of our responsibility to advance this SDG and especially the following target:

  • Upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes, with all countries taking action in accordance with their respective capabilities

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Worldwide consumption and production as a driving force of the global economy, rest on the use of the natural resources. Sustainable products such as biodegradable plastics or natural waxes help improve the use of these natural resources. To reduce the lifecycle impacts of consumption and preserve natural resources, it is also key to keep the available resources in use for as long as possible. The circular economy helps to minimize waste and create value with renewable resources.

The sourcing of our sustainable products but also our quality and compliance standards along the supply chain help achieve this SDG and especially the following three targets:

  • Achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment
  • Substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
  • Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle

Goal 13: Climate Action – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts:

Innovation is the driver towards a zero-carbon economy. Investing in the sustainable portfolio to reduce the carbon footprint of products and reducing the downstream emissions along the supply chain are essential actions to achieve this SDG. Aside from reducing our own emissions and taking compensative actions, we research alternative solutions with our partners and keep an open dialogue, to

  • Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning
  • Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning

Goal 14: Life below Water - Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

Our oceans regulate many of the things that are fundamental to humankind. Rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, food and feed are among the essentials that are regulated by the sea.

To advance this SDG and the below mentioned target, sustainable chemicals such as biodegradable plastics or green water treatment but also sustainable supply chains play a very important role in reducing marine pollution and waste.

  • Prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution

For transparency and responsible handling of our products

SUSTAINABLE

SUPPLY CHAIN

Every stage of a product’s life cycle has effects on the environment, society and the economy. Hence ensuring appropriate business practices, product stewardship and transparency along the value chain is essential for TER Chemicals.
As a chemical distributor, we acknowledge our special role in achieving the sustainable supply chain and actively contribute by ensuring sustainable practices during the entire life cycle of the products and services we provide.

We apply certified quality and compliance standards to us and our partners, offer coherent documentation and ensure safety at work and for the environment along the supply chain. With our pursuit of the circular economy, we strive to reduce waste and energy consumption and introduce recyclable products. We encourage local sourcing to avoid long distance supply routes and minimize water pollution but also explore alternative transportation such as trains and e-trucks for our goods. This is how we support the sustainable supply chain and the following UN Global Compact SDGs.

TER CHEMICALS AND THE SUSTAINABLE

DEVELOPMENT GOALS

In 2015 the United Nations adopted a plan for achieving a better future for all – laying out a path over the next 15 years to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet.

At the heart of the “Agenda 2030” are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which define the world we want to live in.

Together with all the participants and signatories, TER Chemicals supports the principles of the UN Global Compact and contributes to improved human and labor rights, a safe environment and the prevention of corruption and extortion. We commit to do business responsibly and pursue opportunities to solve challenges through business innovation and collaboration.

As the TER Chemicals portfolio is quite diverse and complex, we interact with a wide number of SDGs. However, we identified 8 priority goals that we especially advance through the solutions we develop and the business practices we adopt:
