Accuracy, responsibility, climate protection: our CO₂ balance sheet 2024

At TER Chemicals, we remain committed to climate action through transparent emissions reporting, reduction efforts, and responsible offsetting. In 2024, we expanded our carbon footprint analysis to cover 100% of our product portfolio and improved the quality of our Scope 3 emissions data. While this led to higher reported Scope 3 emissions, it reflects our focus on accuracy and accountability. Read on to learn more about our emissions data, reduction measures, and offsetting projects.

Emissions reporting, reductions & offsetting at TER Chemicals

TER Chemicals expands carbon footprint reporting to 100% of product portfolio

At TER Chemicals, we’re committed to doing our part in the fight against climate change. That’s why we closely monitor our emissions and take action to ensure transparency while avoiding preventable emissions wherever possible.

For the fourth consecutive year, we have measured and disclosed our Corporate Carbon Footprint. By following high standards such as GHG Protocol-compliant carbon accounting, we ensure the accuracy and reliability of our data. Our commitment extends beyond our own operations and into our supply chain, where we continuously work to improve data quality and reduce emissions.

Following our path towards more transparency, we expanded the scope of our 2024 reporting to include 100% of our product portfolio. Previously, emissions were calculated for our top 10 product groups, with which we already covered a broad portion, but with this step we now cover the full range of our portfolio. We are also actively working to improve the quality of data related to Scope 3 emissions - those arising from assets not owned or directly controlled by TER Chemicals.

Due to this broader and more detailed approach, Scope 3 emissions appear higher compared to previous years. Nonetheless, this reflects our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.

Our 2024 carbon footprint:

  • Scope 1 & 2 emissions: 655 tons CO₂
  • Scope 3 emissions: 321.847 tons CO₂

With this development, we remain dedicated to further identify and implement measures to reduce emissions and further advance our climate goals.

Our commitment to reducing emissions in 2024

In 2024, we remained on track to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions. A key action to name was the purchase of 100% green electricity, either directly through supplier contracts or through certified Guarantees of Origin (GOs). This not only supports climate protection but also encourages the expansion of renewable energy and a cleaner energy future.

Further actions to cut emissions include the reduction in fuel consumption related emissions. We also place a strong focus on logistics and the carbon footprints of our products (PCFs), recognizing their significant role in our overall environmental impact.

Project to offsetting residual emissions

We take responsibility for the emissions we cannot yet avoid and in line with our commitment, we have offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the year 2024 by supporting a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) certified wind energy project in India.

The project involves the operation of five wind turbines (each 0.8 MW) in the districts of Tirupur and Dindigul in Tamil Nadu. By feeding renewable electricity into a grid currently dominated by fossil fuels, the wind farm replaces conventional power generation and helps reduce approximately 8.100 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

This initiative reflects our values and long-term goals: driving positive impact, supporting renewable energy, and taking meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. TER Chemicals is proud to be part of this transformation – not only within our own operations but across the global community.
